Avalon listened as Cylon urged Caillou and Lune to follow quickly. She felt guilty for leaving them behind, but what good would they be to each other dead? Hopefully being left alone with the approaching guards would encourage them to come along. She feared for her new friends, but she wasn't brave enough to face a guard. She turned to Cylon, "Lead the way," she said, forcing a smile when really she didn't feel like smiling at all. She was nervous and a little frightened by Destiny's urgency and the distant howling. She wanted to reach this safe place as soon as they possibly could.

Cylon just nodded at Avalon before turning and racing off at top speed. Fear gave his paws wings as he pelted along the cliff side. He glanced over his shoulder to make sure that Avalon was close and continued to run. Then, up ahead he saw the familiar out cropping of rock and slowed to a halt.
He glanced down, beneath his paws, and saw the familiar straight down drop to the sea. "And down we go."He said, flashing Avalon a quick grin before leaping straight off the drop.
It appeared that he would simply fall, but he landed on a small out cropping of rock. Then jumped to the next one, a bit farther down the cliff. Now it became clear that there were a path clearly outlined by ledges of rock all the way down the cliff. Cylon reached the last ledge and turned to look up the face of the tall cliff. He saw the familiar blackness of the cave looming right above his head.
He gave a hug push with his hind legs and was suddenly on the floor of the cave. He turned to look out of the cave to watch Avalon.

Avalon followed Cylon along the cliffline until they reached a sheer drop. Avalon looked around, trying to figure out which way they were going to go next. It didn't appear that there was any way, except for straight off the cliff, which was obviously not an option. Avalon glanced Cylon and noticed he was looking over the edge. He looked up and a sly grin slid across his face. Avalon's eyes grew wide as she realized what he was thinking. Surely not... The thoughts had barely entered her mind when Cylon jumped straight over the edge of the cliff. Avalon stood frozen for a few seconds before she could wrap her mind around what had just happened. She rushed to edge of the cliff and peered down. A wave of relief washed over her as she realized that Cylon was not very far beneath her. He was jumping down several ledges that jutted out of the side of the cliff. She followed him carefully, hoping gently from one ledge to the next until she landed just below the cave. She gave a giant leap and nearly missed the entrance. Her back legs scrambled against the rock as she pulled herself up. She stood panting in the entrance of the gave, shaking her head at Cylon. "You are ridiculous!" she informed him, teasingly.

Despite the bad situation they were in Cylon smiled at her and laughed joyously."That's me!"He grinned happily. Then he turned back to the depth of the cave and walked into it. The ceiling was so low it scraped his back, but as he walked it slowly widened and got bigger. Before long he stood in an enormous cavern. There was a pile of animal skins on the side of the cave, he immediately went over and spread them out, fur side up to make a comfortable bed for each of them. When the furs were moved he pulled to pieces of meat from the small pile that had been revealed. Tossing one to Avalon, he lay down on his pile of furs to eat.

"Thank you," Avalon smiled as she began to eat. She heard the growling and barking guards. They were on the cliffs. She looked around the cave. It was well hidden. The guards would never find them here. But what about Caillou and Lune? Avalon hoped that they had left before the guards arrived. She kept glancing toward the door, concern evident on her face, half-expecting Calliou and Lune to leap in. She glanced at Cylon. She knew they had to leave Calliou and Lune behind, but she couldn't help but feel guilty. "I hope they're okay," she said softly. She would feel terrible if anything happened to them.

Cylon glanced at Avalon, she was staring at the cave opening. "I hope they're okay," She said, obviously worried for the two sisters. Cylon was surprised to find that he felt a twinge of worry inside his at the thought of them alone out on the bare cliff face with the guards on their way.
He paused in his eating, thinking deeply, brow furrowed. He definitely wanted the two to be safe, but he could hear the guards up on the cliff. They were very close. He made up his mind. When the guards moved on, he would go up and check to see what had become of them. He would be careful, and would try not to lead the guards to their hiding place. It would mean death. He shook his head and gulped down the last of his meat.
"I will go find them as soon as the guards move on, don't worry. If I find them, I will bring them here."He told Avalon, sounding confident and sure. Trying to reassure her that they would be fine.

Avalon nodded, but she couldn't help but think that it was already too late. Unless the two sisters had found a great hiding spot of their own after Cylon and Avalon had left, the guards would surely have found them by now. Avalon didn't see Caillou as the type to cower behind lies. She would fight for her allegiance. And based on the sounds coming from about them now, Avalon knew she would lose. The sinking feeling in her chest became nearly unbearable. Avalon had always been very upbeat and optimistic. But fear and sorrow had changed that. Agro's guards were too numerous, too powerful. They were all doomed.

Cylon sighed heavily, the truth frightened him. It really would not be possible for Caillou and Lune to have made it. They would have had to find an excellent hiding place, one they had not had time to search for. They would have returned to the cave he had found them in, having rolled the heavy stone across the door they would think themselves safe enough to avoid the guards. They would be wrong, the guards would easily find their scent, still thick from the added scent of the other dogs they had spoke with.
The guards would push away the rock, jump in and before the two females could think, they would be pinned to the stone floor beneath the guards' strong paws with strong jaws ready at their throats. The guards would probably interrogate them, trying to discover more clues about whatever it was they were searching for, then finding out that they were in fact of light allegiance, they would be dead.
Cylon whipped his head from side to side and paced across the underground cavern agitatedly, fiercely scolding himself for thinking such thoughts. How could he think that? How could he think that about his newly met but already close friends? That was his years and years of a loner talking for him, even in his head. But why was he making friends all of the sudden? He had never liked nor been good at doing that. What changed? 'Perhaps it was the coming of the war,' He told himself, hoping it was true. Once again, he knew it was not, but the truth scared him stiff.
Suddenly, and before he could stop it, rage powered through his body. He crouched angrily, immediately jumping like a rocket across the rest of the room and onto the pile of furs. Hate towards the guards made it very hard for him not to go charging back up the cliff and ripping apart as many as he could. He grabbed a hide and shook it in his jaws, sending chunks of fur flying. He spun, and ripped, and tore at that single hide. He shredded it, nothing but bits was left from his moment of pure and total anger. Remembering himself, he froze, a chunk of hide still in his mouth. He glanced at Avalon. What would she think of this? 'What have I done?'

Avalon turned and watched, wide-eyed, as Cylon tore around the cave. The anger and hatred was clear on his face. But what was the cause of it? She took a step back. Although he didn't make any moves to attack her, she couldn't help but be a little wary. She watched nervously as he ripped apart his bedding. Finally he just stood there panting as the pieces of bedding fell to the ground around him. Avalon gazed at him silently, feeling nervous and slightly on edge. What had triggered his rage? She glanced at the cave entrance. The barking guards were probably at the edge of the cliff now. She glanced back at Cylon, hoping he was back to normal.

Cylon stayed frozen in place, hardly daring to breath. Avalon looked extremely surprised and rather fearful. Of him. That made him feel terrible. Why had he done that? He glanced at Avalon again, letting a sorrowful look spread across his face.
"Avalon..." He started to speak, but his voice caught in his throat. He took a rattling deep breath and tried again. "I'm very sorry about that. It was foolish of me. I let my anger at the guards and my frustration about not being able to help Lune and Caillou get the best of me in the worst possible time. Can you forgive me?"

Avalon allowed herself to relax once again as Cylon offered his appoligies. "It's alright, I understand," she assured him. And she did understand. She understood the frustration he felt at the thought of their newfound friends being slaughtered above them while they hid out here. There was nothing they could do. "Caillou and Lune made a choice," she whispered, hanging her head sadly. After a few seconds of silence she lifted her head and forced a smile, "Who knows? Calliou and Lune are pretty tough. Maybe they're up there right now kickin' some guard's butts!" She giggled softly. This was more like her old self, optimistic and bubbly. It surprised her how easy it was to be somewhat happy...even at a time like this.

Cylon tried to smile at Avalon's optimistic comment, but failed drastically. He just couldn't feel happy about their friends being out there. They might be fighting, yes, but they couldn't beat the guards. The guards were skilled, as much as he wanted them to be daft and dumb, they weren't. And they had the numbers to boot.
He sighed and flashed her a quick, false grin. Hoping she wouldn't see right through it. Then again, he never had been the best actor. He lay down in the middle of the loose fluff of the hide he had ripped up and rested his head on his paws, feeling rather melancholy. He closed his eyes and sighed, hoping sleep would come and save him from this nightmare.
