When his heart slowed to it's normal pace and wasn't pounding in his ears, he was able to hear and understand Aspen and the new dog. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before opening them once more, his vision temporarily clearer than it had been before. Slowly but surely, he rose to his paws, though still shaky, he was able to stand and support his weight. Knight raised his head before glancing from the new dog to Aspen. "Let's go." He said simply, his voice firm but weak. He wasn't going to give up. Not now. Nothing could stop him from completing his mission. Nothing. Not pain or fear or blood or guards. He would get Aspen to the rebels and keep her safe the whole way there. So far he had accomplished that and he wasn't about to stop now. In fact, now that he thought about it, it really didn't feel like once they got to the rebels his job would be done. . . He had a feeling that he would still feel like he was her protector, whether it was his job or not, he knew deep in his gut that he wouldn't be able to let her out of his sight without worrying about her and wondering if she was safe.

Kosov nodded and started in the into the brush, backtracking where he had come from. He paused to look turned his head to look back at the others, skeptical still about the injured male, but not completely halting his slow pace. He did want to lose any more time than they had until dawn came, but he wanted to be sure the male could keep up without more injury to himself.
"Are you sure you do not need assistance?" He asked abruptly, but quietly. "I do not mean to offend your pride and strength, but you have lost a lot of blood..."

Knight knew that if he continued on at the rate he was trying to go then he would end up passing out and then would be no help at all to Aspen or even to them. If anything he would slow them down. "Maybe a little. . . help. . ." He muttered softly, sucking up his pride and large ego and finally admitting that he needed Kosov's help. He leaned against Kosov's shoulder as he walked, which helped him pick up his pace. And Knight tried to concentrate on the task at hand but his mind and eyes couldn't help but wander back to Aspen. . .

Aspen trodded quickly behind Kosov. She glanced back at Knight, her eyes narrowed in concern. Perhaps they should slow down...But she could hear the distant howls of the guards and knew they must keep moving. The entire guard was on their way to the beach. They knew she was there. How would they ever make it back to the rebels now? Lost in thought, she nearly ran into their guide as he stopped and turned around. "Are you sure you do not need assistance? I do not mean to offend your pride and strength, but you have lost a lot of blood..." he questioned Knight. Aspen smiled softly as Knight relented and allowed Kosov to help him. She watched as the two males started walking again and couldn't help admire Knight's strenght. Not his physical strength, but his emotional strength. He never gave up.

Now calm, though still on a high alert, Kosov smiled in relief as he led the others toward his home located at the edge of the Golden Meadow and the Deep Jungle. He was relieved to see that Aspen had survived with little injuries, although the dog he helped now had taken the worst of the fiasco. Many minutes passed with just the sound of the forest and the distant cacophony of the other guards' calls before far behind them he perked up a little more from his some-what exhausted state. "Not far now." He said quietly, "Just a little longer and we'll reach the den under the large tree." He could already smell the welcoming scent of the grass and alfalfa, and the ever so slight feel of the refreshing breeze that blew at times from the ocean and carried the scent of salt with it. They were almost safe.
((OOC: Should we now move this section of the rp to the Golden Meadow board?))

Knight continued along beside Kosov, his gaze still glancing back at Aspen to be sure she was still there and still okay. He knew that the guards would be there soon and he kept thinking that he would look back at her and she would suddenly be gone. But every time he turned his head, she was still there. He caught her eye and smiled before turning to face the way they were headed again. He limped along his vision beginning to blur a little again and his heart racing started racing as he worked harder and harder to put one paw in front of the other.
[/blockquote] ooc: No I say that we just keep it here until they get Aspen to the rebel's camp. Then we can make a new thread in the deep jungle.
