Aspen watched the servant sniff around the shelter, wondering what he was looking for. He stopped and grabbed something off a shelf hidden in the back. Then she saw the chicken in his jaws and caught a whiff of the juicy meat. Her stomach rumbled in anticipation. "Here, eat this. It will help you get your strength back." He sat it down in front of her and she began to eat. She had not had a decent meal in what seemed like a lifetime, other than the rare occasions Zane was able to sneak down a piece of meat for her. Zane. She hoped he was alright. Why hadn't he shown up tonight? She then realized she had never gotten this servants name. As she finished her chicken, she looked up at him. "I'm sorry, but I never got your name, good servant," she informed him. She waited for a reply, studying her rescuer. He was a border collie, appearing to be around her own age, with concerned blue eyes.

Knight smiled as she ate the chicken. Hopefully that will help her gain her strength back and help her make the even longer journey to the next shelter. "Apologies, my name is Knight." He replied, dipping his head a bit. His own weakness was beginning to hit him now and he lowered himself to the ground so that he wouldn't have to put any more pressure on his injuried shoulder. Light blue eyes turned to look back at her, a smile playing on his face as he watched her. She was a very pretty dog, that was for sure. Knight could tell that she would make an amazing queen when she was finally able to rule. Knight quickly looked away from her so she wouldn't notice that he was staring at her.

Aspen smiled. Knight. That was a fitting name for a rescuer. She sighed as she gazed at the tiny opening in the wall. She could faintly here the lapping of the ocean against the shore. She wondered if the guards had noticed that she had escaped. Probably not. They would be down in the morning to make sure she had survived the night, as they usually did. Then she would spend yet another lonely day trapped in her cell. At least that's what every other day had been like. She studied Knight once more and noticed the clumping red fur that ran down his leg. "How is your wound?" she questioned him. She noticed he was being much more gentle with it, as if pressure caused him pain.

Knight shrugged a little with his other shoulder this time. He turned his own gaze to look at the clumped red and black fur that now ran all the way down his leg to his paw. "Nothing major, it will heal." He replied, though he did bend his head around the best he could and try and lick it to get it clean. When he finally realized that everytime he turned his head to lick it, it opened back up and fresh blood glittered on the surface of the gash, he gave up. Knight laid his head down on his paws that were stretched out in front of him. He would just have to wait and get it cleaned up when they finally got to the rebels camp in the Deep Jungle, however long that was going to take.

Aspen watched him suspiciously as he tried to clean his wound to no avail. She hoped the wound would close up over night to make traveling easier tomorrow. Realizing that it was in fact night, and that her stomach was full for the first time in a long time, Aspen felt her eyelids begin to droop. She tried to force them to remain open, to keep an eye on Knight and make sure he really was alright and not just trying to reassure her. But her exhaustion overtook her and it wasn't long before she was curled up on the soft floor, her heart rate slowing, drifting into a peaceful sleep.

The next morning, Knight was the first one to wake up. It was afternoon by the time he woke up since they hadn't been able to sleep until almost morning time. He yawned and looked over at Aspen as she slept. A smile crossed his face and he didn't want to wake her. He rose to his paws, careful not to reopen his wound before poking his head out of the cave. He could hear the distant sound of what he thought was growls and snarls. Probably the angry guards searching for Aspen. They would have to travel at night because that was when the guards went back to the palace. Knight came back inside the cave and sat down, his light blue eyes gazing around the cave. He would let the princess sleep. She probably hadn't had a good night's sleep in quite some time.

Aspen opened her eyes and blinked slowly to adjust. Sunlight streamed through the cave entrance. She must've slept all day! It appeared to be about mid-afternoon. She saw Knight sitting across from her and smiled. She rose to her feet and stretched, letting out a yawn. She felt better than she had in a while...not perfect, but better. As she finished stretching, she heard sounds coming from outside. Howls, barks, cries. It reminded her that her ordeal was far from over. She sighed as she padded across the cave and peered out of the entrance. The guards were out looking for her. And Agro wouldn't rest until she was found. She headed back over to Knight and collapsed next to him.

Knight smiled at Aspen, his eyes following her as she went to look out the entrance to the cave. She then came to lay beside him and he grinned once more and looked over at her. "We won't be able to leave to travel towards the Deep Jungle until tonight. That is when the guard will hopefully be back in the palace or at least not on the beach." Knight explained before laying down beside her.

Aspen nodded understandingly, though she was feeling slightly frustrated that she had to sit here and do nothing while Agro tore apart the island searching for her. She knew her uncle, and he likely wouldn't stop searching until he had her head lying at his paws. "And what if the guards are still here then?" she questioned. What if they remained on the beach for days, never giving up the search? Would she and Knight remained trapped here? She flexed her claws. She wouldn't mind ripping apart a few dark pelts if need be. In fact, she would quite enjoy it.

Knight shifted his light blue eyes to look out the door of the cave before turning his head back to look at her. "If the guards don't pull back, we will still have to leave the cave at nightfall. We can't risk staying in one place for to long. Agro will push his guards to search everywhere, including places they never knew about. No, we will continue on at night fall, we will just have to be very quiet." He replied, looking over at her once again. He couldn't help but smile as he saw the determination burning in her pretty blue eyes. Very soon they would be safe in the Deep Jungle with the rebels and then the real work would begin.

Aspen nodded, noticed him smile as he looked at her. She quickly turned her head away as if she hadn't noticed. They would leave tonight, then. Guards or no guards. She sighed, knowing their likely would be guards. At least she wasn't as weak as she had been the night before, although another meal would do her some good. She glanced at her stomach as it growled. She padded over to where Knight had got the food the previous night and searched for leftovers. She pulled a small bird off the shelf and headed back over to Knight. "This is all that I saw," she said, "I guess we'll have to share it."

Knight shook his head at her request. "No, you eat it. I'm not hungry." He replied before taking a step back so she wouldn't try and hand him some anyways. "Besides, you need your strength more than I do." He added softer though. If they were caught in a fight with the guards, Aspen would need her strength to escape. All Knight needed was strength enough to fight the guards and hold them off long enough so that Aspen could escape. He had taken this mission knowing that if serious trouble came, he would gladly give up his life to protect Aspen. He gave her another small smile before sitting down once again. His eyes glance at her every once and awhile but trying to make sure she didn't notice his gaze. It filled him with warmth to know such a beautiful and determined young dog would had been through so much already and yet she wouldn't give up. He wished that he could be like her. Then maybe things would be different now. . .

Aspen sighed, shooting him an annoyed gaze. She glanced down at his wound. He needed strenght too. But Aspen was hungry enough not to argue. She quickly gulped up her meal before trotting over to the entrance of the cave. She peered out at the sky. The sun would be setting soon and it would be time too begin the next phase of their journey. She leaped back in alarm as a guard rushed right passed the cave entrance. Her chest heaved from the surprise as she stared at the entrance. She held her breath, praying the guard would not return.

Knight lept to his paws when he saw the legs of a guard run past the entrance to the cave. He came to stand in front of Aspen and silently motioned for her to move further back into the cave. That way if the guard did come back, Knight could reveal himself and convince the guard that he was alone before he could discover Aspen. "Stay back and stay quiet." He whispered to her, lowering his body to the sandy floor of the cave so he could see out of the entrance. Knight pricked his ears as he listened to the fading pawsteps of the guard. When it's scent did return, Knight relaxed and rose back up to his paws again. "The guard didn't scent us. We are safe. But the sun has almost set all the way now so we should prepare to leave. Hopefully that guard is long gone by now." He added as he glanced over his shoulder at the entrance once more before turning back to her. Knight gazed at the princess for a long moment, his mind wandering and one question came to his mind. "Um. . . if it's not to bold of me to ask. . . do you fear death?" He asked her, very much interested in her answer. He glanced away as soon as he asked the question, unsure if she would take offense to it or not. He, himself, wasn't afraid of death but he definitely wasn't welcoming it with open arms. Though it wouldn't really matter if he died or not seeing as he had no family, no mate or pups or really any friends either. He was just an agent for the rebels, and sure they would be sad if he died but some of them would probably be happy because they would get to go on more mission that he had been assigned. He was one of the best agents the rebels had ever had and everyone knew that but none of the other rebels seemed to like him much. He always felt like an outsider, wandering alone with only orders to live his life by. But maybe someday he would be lucky enough to find a mate and have pups and raise a family. That sounded like a nice way to live one's life. Or maybe he would die doing his job and never feel the love of a family.

Aspen took a couple steps back and remained silent, still holding her breath. Finally Knight turned back to face her. "The guard didn't scent us. We are safe. But the sun has almost set all the way now so we should prepare to leave. Hopefully that guard is long gone by now." Aspen nodded, allowing herself to relax. Obviously they would have to avoid the guards as they traveled. She had suspected that Agro would not pull them back so quickly. She gazed curiously at Knight, for he was looking at her as if wondering something. "Um. . . if it's not to bold of me to ask. . . do you fear death?" A flash of determination shone in the princesses eyes as Knight asked this question. "I would give my life in a heartbeat to protect my island," she replied forcefully. Not that she wanted to die. She actually would prefer to live a long and healthy life. If she lived to see the end of Agro's reign, then she would need to find a mate and have pups. She smiled to herself at the thought of having a little pup that would one day be Queen of Arcadia. But if she didn't live long enough to see peace, then she would die fighting for it.
